Which is better an english mastiff or a south african boerboel and why?

They are very different. The mastiff is more laid back, better with families and children, larger. The boerboel has a high prey drive, is still very much a working dog genetically and is smaller and more muscular. Both need a strong leader for an owner and a commitment to ongoing obedience training because of size and/or temperament.
