Can someone with domestic violence on thier record become a dental hygienist?

My friend had a that charge on her record from 6 years ago and said its a misdomenor now. Now she wants to be a hygienist but crys that she might not be able to help people. Her charge was because of self defense, but was still charged harshly because of the situation.
